The Fish Have Been Fantastic

The Marlins are off to an amazing start this season (11-1). They've shown that they have the components of a championship team. They lead the NL east by 5 games with the Braves and Mets tied for the second spot at 6-6. Being a Braves fan, I sincerely hope that the streak the Marlins are putting on right now doesn't last. But, even if they don't last I still have to worry about the highly talented Mets with their ace Johan Santana thirsty for another Cy Young award. So, even though the Marlins are off to a great start, we'll just have to wait and see if they can keep it up through the grueling 150 games left ahead. Baseball cannot be conquered by a team that goes on good streaks, but only by a team that can be consistent. It's not a 16 game season where a couple good or bad games can change the outcome. It's a full 6 month season where the teams play almost every single day, and you need to be able to stick it out through the pain to make it to the top. If the Marlins can do that then they definitely deserve to be talked about as a great team, until then, they are just on a great streak.

  1. The Marlins are impressive this season. What has accounted for their success? I haven't followed close enough. As for my Mets, they really blew it yesterday. Two innings in a row, they get men in scoring position with one out, only to hit into double plays. If I were a Marlins fan, I'd take comfort in this: the Mets seem to have a knack for shooting themselves in the foot.

  2. Great point to make. But you have to be happy for the Marlins even if you are a Braves fan. After they won in 03' they had some disappointing years, so for them to get a good start means a lot for the rest of the year. But it definitely is a very long season, but also this streak has put them on the map.
